The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance.

This informal course, open to all-comers, will guide you in the ways of achieving more knowledge and understanding of artworks through the study of the various concepts, contexts and styles that combine, along with other influences and inspirations, in the creation of a work of art.

Paul Cézanne was one of the most influential artists in the history of twentieth-century painting.

His unique and inspirational painting formed a bridge between the art of the late 19th Century and the ‘modern’ art of the 20th Century, and was considered by many artists, such as Matisse and Picasso as ‘The father of us all.
