What will I study?
The aim of the AS/A2 Accounting course is to give learners an understanding of the concepts and principles that underpin accounting theory and practice and its importance in a variety of organisations. The course introduces learners to the processes involved in the recording of financial transactions and information, the presentation of financial information and the preperation of financial information and the preparation of information for management decision making.
How can I progress?
Students who study this course can progress by studying Accountancy at degree level at University. In addition students will also find it relevant if they wish to study other degrees such as; Finance, Business Studies, Management or Economics. AS/A2 Accounting may also help students who wish to gain employment. It will provide an excellent foundation for further study of accounting at pre-professional and professional level, as well as equipping them with the essential accounting skills needed in the business environment.

Course Structure
Whilst studying towards this qualification the following modules will be covered; *Purpose of accounting, accounting records and their verification, preparation of trading and profit and loss accounts and balance sheets *Types of business organisations, accounting concepts, ratio analysis, assessment of business performance, introduction to budgeting, impact of ICT in accounting *Sources of finance, incomplete records, partnership accounts, published accounts, accounting standards and stock valuation *Manufacturing accounts, marginal, absorption and activity based costing, standard costing and variance anaysis, investment appraisal and social accounting *Students will be expected to complete regular homework and attend additional classes for revision
