Who is this course for?
The course is intended for those who wish to study and develop an interest in science, what living things are made of and how they function.

What will I learn?
Biology is the study of life. You will develop a deeper understanding of how science works. Topical issues such as genetics, global diseases and the environment are also studied.

Assessment
There are four units (two at AS, two at A2) which are externally assessed though written examinations. Two units (one at AS, one at A2) are internally assessed. These assess the students' practical skills. The

Assessment uses OCR set tasks and mark schemes.

On Completion Achievement / Progression
The course provides you with a foundation for study at a more advanced level. Taken with other A2 levels it will enable you to pursue one of many science courses in higher education, medical higher education courses and also teacher training.

Requirement
You will need a minimum entry requirement of 4 Grade Cs or above at GCSE level to include a Grade BB in science, additional science or double award science. For mature students life experience will be taken into consideration. For entry to A2 level successful completion of the AS level is a prerequisite. Students wishing to take this subject as part of the full-time provision should complete an application form on receipt of which we will invite you to the college for an informal interview where you will have the opportunity to talk with the tutors.
