AS/A2 Economics
While studying Economics at Reigate College you will have a learning pack of resources for each unit. You will be involved in discussions, watching videos and using the Internet. There will be trips out to conferences and a car plant. All of this will assist you to develop the right set of skills for Economics.

What will I study on this course?
The two AS units are:
Markets in Action - Food prices and oil prices are both rising. Why? The polar ice cap is melting. Why? This unit helps you to use economic theory to explain these occurrences.
The National and International economy - The UK has stopped growing. We are going into recession.This unit will look at how this affects peoples lives.
The two A2 units are:
The Global economy - Why has China grown so quickly? Is it a good thing that some foods are flown half way around the world before reaching our supermarkets? This unit looks in detail at the implications of our shrinking world for developed and developing economies.
Transport Economics What can be done about the problems of congestion? Will road pricing ever happen on a wide scale? This unit looks in detail at transports increasing role in the global economy. You will learn how growing markets drives the demand for transport and how governments need to regulate it.
How is this course assessed?
The course is examination based, there is no coursework.
What kind of student will do well on this course?
Students who like to ask the question Why? You need to have a good range of skills to do well in Economics. You should have good knowledge of current affairs, read newspapers and watch the news and current affairs programmes. You must like solving problems, handling data and essay writing.
