WHY TAKE FRENCH?
Did you love learning French at GCSE? Do you find it a beautiful language? Would you like to work at a higher level in French? Would you like to find out more about the language, the people and the country? Do you think French could help you in a future career such as law, medicine, engineering, or business? Do you think you might want to study languages at degree level or combined with another subject? If you have answered "yes" to any of these questions, AS/A2 French at Priestley could be the course for you.

Studying French prepares you for any career requiring good communication skills. Language graduates are in demand by employers. Language graduates have the lowest unemployment rates in the country after medical and teaching graduates. You can study French alongside many other degree subjects such as law, marketing, business or engineering.

WHAT ARE THE KEY AREAS OF STUDY?
For AS French you will study two aspects of French life: Leisure and Lifestyles and The Individual and Society. The A2 course also deals with two topics related to France: Environmental Issues and Social and Political Issues. You will also study either two French films or a French film and a French book. The choice will be yours. You will talk about one in your oral exam and write about the other in your final A2 exam.

WHAT SKILLS WILL I NEED AND DEVELOP?
You will continue to develop your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills as you did for GCSE. You will learn to express your ideas and opinions on the range of topics we study. You will also strengthen and extend your knowledge and understanding of grammar.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
The AS course is assessed by two exams, one oral and one written. The A2 course is assessed by two exams, one oral and one written. You will be assessed by your teachers every half term so we can see how you are progressing.

PRIESTLEY EXTRA
You will have the opportunity to do a week's work experience in France. You will be able to watch films at the Cornerhouse cinema in Manchester. You will be able to attend university sixth form days and French AS and A2 topic days.
