Will I enjoy Mathematics?
Students who have enjoyed the challenge of GCSE Mathematics may be now ready to take on the subject at AS/A Level. Mathematics is a progressive subject in which students continually build upon the skills they have developed in previous lessons.
What is Further Mathematics?
AS/A Level Further Mathematics is studied in addition to AS/A Level Mathematics and is a useful subject in its own right. It provides able students with the perfect opportunity to stretch and develop their mathematical skills. It is a particularly useful qualification for those who intend to follow a Maths based degree subject at university.

In each of the AS & A Level years, students take one Further Pure Maths unit and two applied units (from Statistics, Mechanics or Discrete) of their choice. Students who decide to continue their study of Maths at university will be given the opportunity to study an extra Pure Maths unit in Year 13 to help their application.
Progression
All potential employers will recognise the problem solving skills that students with a Maths qualification will undoubtedly have. For many careers, particularly in the fields of science and engineering an A Level in Mathematics is essential. It is also considered very advantageous in careers such as medicine dentistry, finance and insurance.
