About this course

For part time study you will need German GCSE Grade C or equivalent knowledge and experience of languages. You must already have successfully completed or be studying AS level German in order to study for the A2 level qualification.

WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?
The course is aimed at mature learners over 19 years, re-sit A level learners, and anyone with a good GCSE grade or equivalent experience of the language. The course provides a sound understanding of the structure of the German language.

These courses run from our Wigston campus in conjunction with Leicester College.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?
Training and practice in German language including reading, speaking, listening and writing. You will assimilate cultural knowledge from texts, listening exercises, newspapers etc.

For A2, learners are expected to do their own research on two topics (e.g. literature, culture or history), and complete longer pieces of writing.

Assessment is based upon examinations taken in May/June 2010:

AS: 3 papers: Listening/Writing, Reading/Writing, Oral examination.
A2: 3 papers: Oral examination, Topics and Texts, Listening/Reading/Writing.

WHAT ARE MY COMMITMENTS?
You will need to attend classes on Thursdays from 6.30pm 9.30pm. In addition you will need to spend at least 5 hours per week on coursework at home or in college. Written assignments will be set regularly.

WHAT WILL I ACHIEVE?
On successful completion of the course and examinations you will achieve GCE AS/A2 level German.

WHAT WILL IT COST ME?
3a931-09 Course fees 10 16-18 year olds, 345(101) 19 years and over

Course fees are payable on enrolment. Costs shown in brackets are for those on income-based benefits. Refunds are not normally available.

Exam fees 35 approximately
Textbooks 20-35 approximately

Additional costs occur at various times of the year.

WHAT CAN I DO AFTERWARDS?
With Grade C at AS level you can progress onto A2 level. Combined with other A levels or equivalent you can gain entry in to Higher Education. There may also be various employment opportunities.
