The course is designed to enable you to:
Gain a broad understanding of the sector
Develop skills as well as technical knowledge
Develop an awareness of particular groups and their needs by focusing on Health, Early Years (Care and Education), Care of Older People or individuals with specific needs

The course suits those who enjoy studying a subject relevant to their own lives and experiences and who want the opportunity to undertake practical work. Assessment is predominantly coursework based with some exams.

Positive Care Environments
The knowledge that you will gain from these unit will allow you to understand that positive care practice relies on practitioners having a comprehensive understanding of the diverse society we live in.
Communication and Values
This unit will give you an understanding of the importance of communication in all caring activities, and about the values involved in care. You will learn about the care value base of care and the transmission of values through communication.
Human Growth and Development
Health and Social Care practitioners need to develop a knowledge base for working with people at every stage of their lives. This unit focuses on the patterns of human growth and development and the experience of health and well being.
Meeting Individual Needs
This unit will assess your knowledge of how health and social care services are structured and provided within the UK. The unit will focus on how services are tailored to meet the individual needs, through the use of care plans, and the importance of working in a multi-disciplinary team.
Promoting Health and Wellbeing
This unit will develop your understanding of promoting health and well being. You will find out why health and promotion campaigns are carried out, and how topics and target groups are carried out. By carrying out your own small scale health promotion, you will learn about the different approaches to health education.
Investigating Disease
This unit develops concepts of health and disease introduced in Human Growth and Development in the AS. You will learn about the disease process, and will carry out an individual investigation into various aspects of two specific diseases.
