What will I study?
Students will use Visual Basic for Windows solutions and PHP for web solutions. They will also develop an understanding of how contemporary computer hardware and software systems work and an appreciation of the consequences of the use of computers.
In Year 1 students will be assessed on their problem solving, design, programming, testing and evaluation skills using a problem devised by the exam board.
In Year 2 students will undertake a project involving the analysis of their own choice of realistic problem followed by the design and development of a fully programmed and documented solution.
What next?
This course can be taken in conjunction with most other 'A' Level programmes including Applied ICT and past students have progressed on to Higher Education at university or entered the IT industry at an appropriate level. Computer programming is used in many industries including science and business for simulation and problem solving.
NB: This course primarily focuses on programming rather than IT. For those wanting to study hands-on hardware may prefer the Award in ICT Systems & Principles.
