WHY TAKE PHYSICAL EDUCATION?

An AS/A2 in PE will help you gain entry to either the world of work or Higher Education.
WHAT ARE THE KEY AREAS OF STUDY?
The AS PE course consists of two modules.
Module 1 - Improving Performance in Physical Education - 50% Practical
Internal Assessment - Practical Performance (30% of AS)
Personal Performance Profile (10% of AS)
Coaching or Officiating (10% of AS)
Module 2 - Active Lifestyles and Physical Education - 50% Theory
External Assessment - Compulsory structured questions plus one question requiring extended writing. This includes topics such as sports psychology, health, and active lifestyle.
The A2 course also consists of two modules.
Module 1 - Refining Performance in Physical Education - 25% of final grade
Internal Assessment - Practical Performance (17.5%) and Investigative Research (7.5%)
Module 2 - Performance, Provision and Participation in Physical Education - 25 % of final grade
External Assessment
Section A - Compulsory structured questions (15%).
Section B - One question requiring extended writing from a choice of two (10%)
This includes topics such as Biomechanics, applied psychology, equity and sports organisation
WHAT SKILLS WILL I NEED AND DEVELOP?
We want you to learn through direct experience and expect you to actively participate in all lessons. The course will be delivered via tutorials, laboratory work, and practical sessions. We will encourage you to work independently and take responsibility for your own learning. Students are encouraged to make full use of the Virtual Learning Environment (Moodle) which provides students with 24/7 access to support materials.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
You will be assessed via module examinations in May or June. The coursework element is continually assessed throughout the year. Practical performance is one sport.
PRIESTLEY EXTRA
You will have the opportunity to undertake a variety of sports coaching qualifications, sports leaders awards, residential experiences and a range of practical activities.
