What will I study?

For both the AS and A2, two complementary areas of study are selected. At AS level, students must opt for one of the following modules: Philosophy of Religion or New Testament (Gospels) two modules in total. Ethics focuses on various methods of right and wrong, and their application to practical issues (eg medical ethics). Philosophy deals with the traditional arguments for the existence of God and criticisms of these by various scholars. The last week in the life of Jesus, and why he died, forms the basis of the New Testament study. For A2, students continue with Religious Ethics and Philosophy of Religion or New Testament.

How is this course assessed?

Assessment is by examination only for AS and A2 (two modules for each level). Exams are available in January and June. Each modular exam lasts for one hour and thirty minutes. Candidates are required to answer two two-part questions from a choice of four. Modules may be retaken to improve grades. Grades are decided by aggregating the marks for each module.

It develops a wide range of skills including those needed for enquiry, evaluation and communication. No other study will involve us so profoundly in the exploration of human nature and of what it is capable of being and becoming. A theology qualification meets needs in a variety of fields including broadcasting, journalism, publishing and teaching.
