Sociology applies a critical understanding to our everyday social world and its taken-for-granted assumptions. It is concerned with the underlying structures of everyday life. Topics in AS include the nature of family life and the structure of the education system, and A2 has a special focus on crime and deviance. It asks us to look afresh at these areas, and challenges our preconceptions.
