Who is this course for?
The course is suitable if you intend to study sociology at a higher level and also if you are interested in people and how they live.

What will I learn?
Sociology looks at society today. It looks at social diversity, social change and social issues. It is especially concerned with how the society we live in influences our social behaviour.AS Sociology: two modules. 1. Exploring socialisation, culture and identity - how we learn behaviour from our family, our peers, the school and the media. These institutions help to shape our gender, social class, ethnic and age identities. We also look at research methods. 2. Topics in socialisation, culture and identity - allows learners to explore contemporary family structures, relationships and changes.A2 Sociology: two modules . 1. Power and Control - power and control in society through a detailed study of crime and deviance; the social construction of crime and deviance and the role of agencies of social control and the law and the different ways of measuring crime. 2. Exploring social inequality and difference - studies and explains patterns of inequality in the contemporary UK and further explores research methods.

Assessment
There will be set pieces of work for you to complete throughout the course that will be assessed by your tutor. Both AS and A2 Level courses have two written examinations.

On Completion Achievement / Progression
The study of sociology will open up a wide variety of career options. Sociology graduates have gone on to have careers in social work, public services, journalism, media, advertising, teaching and probation work.
