2. Course description When you study Ancient History, you learn to understand and evaluate written material, to express yourself fluently in written and oral communication, and to research, organise and present arguments. A Level Ancient History is a qualification respected by universities and is useful in a variety of careers such as archaeology, teaching, and the further pursuit of historical thought. The study of Ancient History complements languages, Classical Civilisation (NC109), Archaeology (NC102) and History (NC128, 129 & 130).

3. Entry requirements You must have a Grade C in GCSE English Language and Literature and a Grade C in GCSE History, if you have taken it. If you have not taken English Literature, please speak to the Course Leader. Previous study of the ancient world or classical languages is not required, but if you have some knowledge of history or the classical world you will find the course particularly attractive. A genuine interest and enthusiasm for the study of the ancient past are basic requirements, together with the initiative and capacity to study hard, both as a part of a group and individually. You need to have the self-discipline and motivation to undertake the reading, research and writing required in the course. 4. Equipment required No equipment required 5.
