What does the course consist of?
  • Studying a selection of modern and pre-twentieth century novels, poetry and plays (including Shakespeare)
  • Reading a variety of literature from all periods to help develop literary analysis skills
  • Developing strong, independent, critical skills
  • Much of the work is by discussion in groups
  • Workshops, videos and theatre visits

How is this course assessed?
  • Two units in the first year assessed by an open book examination and two pieces of written coursework
  • Two units in the second year assessed by closed book examination and two pieces of written coursework
