About this course

Obviously an enthusiastic interest in films and cinema-going is vital! Because of the written demands of the course you will need a grade C in GCSE English. You will also need to be able to work without supervision, use your initiative, undertake research on the Internet, in the library or from other sources.

AS/A Level Film Studies
Studying films will enable you to engage with the cultural developments and attitudes and values inherent in the societies that produce them. You will develop a critical appreciation of the techniques of film production, an understanding of films from different eras and different cultures, and the ability to analyse stylistic, narrative and generic issues and the relationships between producers and audiences.
You will also learn to work in groups and develop your personal creativity in the production of film scripts, storyboarding and, if you wish, filming and editing your own mov i e s. Research skills are an integral part of the course and you will be expected to take responsibility for collecting and bringing together a range of material and information relevant to your studies.
Qualifications

Modules
Film Studies has a large coursework requirement (up to 50%) at both AS and A2. This allows you to develop both analytical and practical film-making skills.

After the Course
The AS/A Level prepares you for a range of degree courses in Film, Media, Visual Culture and Humanties but also develops research, observational, critical and analytical skills which are transferable to a wide variety of courses and employment.
