Why choose Film Studies?
This course is for anyone who loves the experience of cinema and endlessly discussing the films theyve seen. Film Studies provides an opportunity to learn about production, distribution and exhibition in a wide range of contexts. Topics include: British and American Film, World Cinema, Spectatorship, Exploring Film Form, Film Research and Creative Projects. Film production skills are taught as part of the practical element of the course. Students need to have an open mind and be prepared to discuss films from different eras and countries. The course includes the study of 18 certificate films. This is permitted for under-18 year olds under BBFC guidelines.

Wide range of DVDs, videos and background books in the Learning Resources Centre.
Teaching and Learning Styles
Data projector and cinema surround sound in the teaching room provide an exciting and engaging learning experience. Much of the learning takes place through group discussion and creative activities that should stretch your imagination.
You will need to read background and critical books available in the Learning Resources Centre.

Trips to a variety of different cinemas
Visiting speakers from the world of film
Assessment
Four modules: two at AS and two at A2 level.
There will be one examination and one coursework unit per year.
Progression Opportunities
You may go on to study a media/film related course or progress to a wide range of humanities and social science subjects. Film Studies combines well with a wide range of other courses.
