What does the course consist of?
  • A study of the whole universe from quarks to black holes and quasars
  • Year I covers familiar areas such as electricity and motion, and introduces new ideas like quantum physics and particle physics
  • Year 2 takes the course into gravitation fields, electromagnetism and nuclear physics
  • Year 2 of the course also includes a study of the physics of astronomy

How is this course assessed?
  • AS consists of two written examination units and one internally marked practical unit
  • Practical work is assessed using practical investigations set by the AQA
  • A2 consists of two more written examinations, and a more advanced investigation which is internally assessed

  • The demand for students with a Physics qualification is very high
  • Almost all the students who achieve a pass grade in A-level Physics go on to University
