Students must have a minimum of 5 A-C individual GCSE subject passes, one of which must be Maths, including a minimum of 2 grade Bs, one to be in English Language or a related subject.

Psychology AS/A Level

Who is the course for?
The course is for students who have an interest in psychology, or for students who are working towards University or a related career.

What is the course about?
In the first year students will cover a range of topics such as eye witness testimony, aggression, autism, gambling addiction, multiple personality disorder to name a few. Key approaches are social, cognitive, developmental, physiological and individual differences. There is a 2 hr exam on 15 core studies and a 1 hour exam on psychological investigations.

In the second year students will develop an understanding of Psychology of Sport and Exercise. For example, sports personality, theories of aggression and motivation, group cohesion and "burnt out". The second topic looks at Forensic Psychology which involves comparing theories of criminal behaviour and the effectiveness of treatments and sentences. Both topics will be covered in a 1.5 hour exam. Finally, the second exam paper will analyse Perspectives, Approaches, Debates, Themes, Issues which can be drawn from both AS and A2 Pyschology in an 1.5 hour exam paper
