Course programme
Course review:
This Assertiveness Training runs for three Saturday afternoons, in a small group (max 6), in central Cambridge, with a friendly, supportive, expert trainer. Total 12 hours training. This course is a great opportunity to start learning how to handle life more assertively, in an enjoyable, relaxed, but informative setting. Although the course covers typical assertiveness content (see below) no two courses are the same, as each is tailored to its particular participants' needs.
A short pre-course confidential telephone discussion with the trainer identifies (a) key goals and (b) areas to be explored on the course. This ensures that you get what you want and need from the sessions, which are specifically tailored to each new group.
As an experienced trainer with over 25 years in soft skills training and a background in applied psychology, sessions can draw on a range of different communications models where appropriate, including social psychology, counselling, coaching, NLP, gestalt, transactional analysis etc. Sessions are highly focused but informal, combining trainer input (assertiveness model, issues, strategies, techniques etc.) with participant questions, examples, discussion and supported practice. The focus is always on how you can best apply the ideas in your own life - what might stop or hinder you and how you can move forward.
Standard content includes: what is assertiveness? understanding the four behaviour styles, building confidence and self esteem, making requests, saying no, handling conflict, body language.
Participants gain:

- confidence to try out new ways of handling situations
- a 'tool kit' of techniques and strategies for handling things effectively
