Assessing a Carers Suitability for Permanency
ASSESSING A CARERS SUITABILITY FOR PERMANENCY (1 DAY COURSE)

ABOUT THE COURSE

This one day course is for child care professionals including: Field Social Workers, Family Placement Workers, Family Support Workers, Residential and Day Care Workers.

The course recognises that childcare workers have always been mindful of the importance of permanence and stability for children - whether they are accommodated or not. Recently however, there has been an increasing interest in this arena from the Government and the Quality Protects Initiatives have highlighted the needs of accommodated children.

The course offers an opportunity to explore the issues involved in assessing foster carers suitability for the task, getting it right from the start and making the proper assessment of the adults involved in providing permanency is the key.

The style of presentation is practice based, non- threatening and thus enabling the consideration of all issues through humour and warmth.

AIMS & OBJECTIVES

This course aims to:

  • Ensure that children are securely attached to carers capable of providing safe and effective care for the duration of childhood.

  • Reduce the number of changes of main carer for 'looked after' children. No more than 16% of children are to have 3 or more placements in one year.

  • Reduce the period children remain 'looked after' before they are placed for adoption, or placed in 'long term' foster care.

  • Ensure that children 'in need' gain maximum life chance benefits from educational opportunities, health and social care.

  • Ensure that young people leaving care, as they enter adulthood are not isolated and participate socially and economically as citizens.

On completion of the course delegates are provided with course materials and are awarded a certificate. The training will commence at 9:30am and finish at 3:30pm. This course runs with a minimum of 12 and a maximum of 25 delegates.

    On FUTURE CHILDCARE TRAINING LTD

    Provider description
Future Childcare Training Ltd provide training courses for childcare professionals throughout the UK. We are a specialist team providing a wide range of courses which not only enable professionals to meet the needs of children and their families, but also help organisations develop new government initiatives.

Our trainers have recent and current experiences in the childcare field, and have been actively involved in the delivery and formulation of training programmes for over 15 years, having worked as trainers for Local Authorities, NSPCC, NCH, and independently.

Their experiences cover the spectrum of 0-21 years of age, residential, day care, group-work, specialist services including child development and special needs, direct work with children and families, childcare placements, child protection, registration and inspection, and many years managing a range of services.

We offer courses which are practice based which should change professional ways of working immediately. We service the whole of the UK so will travel to your own locality to present multi-disciplinary or team based training. We also provide regional courses which are based in Glasgow (Scotland) and the Midlands (England) which enable smaller numbers from teams to take up the opportunity to complete a course. Where requested we can provide tailor-made courses eg. Team Building.

Not only do we deliver national training courses, we offer consultation services and are often invited to speak at seminars and conferences on childcare issues. We are also invited to attend events which inform government policy and strategies.

Future Childcare Training Limited is committed to delivering high quality training. All training materials and presentations will be practice based and user led with a focus on putting children first. We have discovered that the most effective way for adults to learn is by interacting and having fun.
