Course learning Objectives for level 2a
At the end of the level 2a module course members should be able to:
- Describe in depth the Maitland Concept of manipulative physiotherapy and its clinical application
- Apply the principles of the concept to two patients ,each over four examination, assessment and treatment sessions [note that for this part of the course, participants are subject to a summative evaluation of their work with patients to ensure a required standard of clinical reasoning and patient care is achieved]
- Perform a high standard of all vertebral and peripheral examination and treatment techniques including functional demonstration, differentiation, use of combined movements and compression techniques and all techniques in the level 1 and 2a syllabus [note that for this part of the course participants are subject to summative evaluation of a number of techniques to ensure the required standard of technique performance and application is achieved]
- Demonstrate in depth assessment and management of neurodynamics based on the clinical and theoretical knowledge acquired during lectures, demonstrations and self study
- Show an understanding of patterns of clinical presentation [syndromes] and be able to describe and apply appropriate manipulative physiotherapy management to such patterns
- Achieve a standard of clinical practice and technical skill which leads to the award of the imta certificate of competence in the Maitland Concept of Manipulative Physiotherapy –level 2a
