Two Weeks - (Two Part)

This two week module is part of the eleven week education programme offered by imta. The overall aim of the course system is to educate physiotherapists comprehensively in the clinical problem solving and manipulative physiotherapy management of neuromusc

Course learning Objectives for level 2a

At the end of the level 2a module course members should be able to:

  • Describe in depth the Maitland Concept of manipulative physiotherapy and its clinical application
  • Apply the principles of the concept to two patients ,each over four examination, assessment and treatment sessions [note that for this part of the course, participants are subject to a summative evaluation of their work with patients to ensure a required standard of clinical reasoning and patient care is achieved]
  • Perform a high standard of all vertebral and peripheral examination and treatment techniques including functional demonstration, differentiation, use of combined movements and compression techniques and all techniques in the level 1 and 2a syllabus [note that for this part of the course participants are subject to summative evaluation of a number of techniques to ensure the required standard of technique performance and application is achieved]
  • Demonstrate in depth assessment and management of neurodynamics based on the clinical and theoretical knowledge acquired during lectures, demonstrations and self study
  • Show an understanding of patterns of clinical presentation [syndromes] and be able to describe and apply appropriate manipulative physiotherapy management to such patterns
  • Achieve a standard of clinical practice and technical skill which leads to the award of the imta certificate of competence in the Maitland Concept of Manipulative Physiotherapy –level 2a
