Updated from the previous qualifications D32, D33, D36 the assessor award (A1) is designed to meet the differing needs of those who assess NVQ competence in the workplace using a variety of different assessment methods.
Course Length
You are required to attend a set of mandatory taught sessions. The programme provides support for you to work at your pace within a given time frame.
What will I study?
A1.1 - Develop plans with candidate for assessing competence
A1.2 Judge evidence against criteria to make assessment decisions
A1.3 Provide feedback and support candidates and assessment decisions
A1.4 Contribute to the internal quality assurance process
How will I learn?
The programme is delivered in small groups. After an initial guidance session on how to understand the packs and the guidance, follow up taught session and individual meetings will be organised to monitor and review your progress up until completion of your portfolio of evidence.
How will I be assessed?
This will be by means of evidence of competence collected as part of your duties in assessing candidates. You will present this in a portfolio. A professional discussion, observation complete the evidence requirements.
Where could it lead?
You may use these units towards obtaining NVQ Levels 3 and 4 in Training and Development; of which there are several qualifications available in the suite of awards, together with Cluster Awards for specific areas of education, training and human resources. Employers in all sectors are increasingly requiring employees to gain these qualifications.
Requirement
All those involved in the assessment and verification strategy are subject to the Employment NTO Assessment Strategy and as such should be able to provide evidence of having held a post for a minimum of one year within the last two years which involved performing the activities defined in the standards as an experienced practitioner. OR: Being an experienced trainer or instructor of at least one years standing in the competency area of the standards; And: Having demonstrated updating within the last year involving at least two of the following activities: Work placement Job shadowing Technical skill update training Attending courses Studying for learning and development units Study related to job role Collaborative working with Awarding Bodies Examining Qualifications development work Other appropriate occupational activity as agreed with the internal verifier Additional evidence required: A minimum of 2 NVQ candidates to assess. Evidence of assessment having begun prior to the first taught A award session is required. An identified Assessor to countersign in the relevant vocational NVQ area who holds either D32 and D33 or A1 award. An identified Internal Verifier who holds the D34 or V1 award.
