What does the course consist of?
Topic 1: Personal information
By the end of this unit you will be able to give information about yourself and discuss your hobbies.
Topic 2: Shopping
This unit deals with changing money, purchasing basic items and complaining about defective goods.
Topic 3: Travel
You will learn to buy train/bus/plane tickets, obtain details about times and departure points, understand road signs, request petrol and obtain help for a breakdown.
Topic 4: Making arrangements over the phone
You will learn to use the telephone in the foreign language, take and leave a message, make, re-arrange or cancel appointments.
Topic 5: Eating out
You will learn to book a table, order a meal, express your likes and dislikes about food and types of restaurants, ask about methods of payment.
Topic 6: Directions
This unit deals with asking for or giving direction
What else do I need to know? This is a course for complete beginners. Dialogues and role-plays will involve group and pair work (face-to-face or on the telephone). Listening will often be done individually in the laboratory. Homework will consist of vocabulary learning and short written tasks. You will have access to listening positions in classroom, a range of resources such as authentic material, audio and video cassettes.
Any subjects combine well with this course and it provides a good basis for further studies at GCSE Level.
