Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) NVQ Level 2

About the course:
This course is for anyone wishing to study the basics of accounting and gain first level knowledge of accounting systems.

Course Content:
The course consists of seven units which all need to be completed successfully to achieve the award.

Unit 1 Recording Income and Receipts - cash book, day book and recording sales invoices manually.

Unit 2 Making and recording payments - cash book, day book, recording purchase invoices and petty cash manually.

Unit 3 Preparing ledger balances and an initial trial balance - Posting sales and purchases to ledger, balance down and transfer to trial balance, reconciling cash book and bank journals.

Unit 4 Supplying information for management control - costing, coding invoices.

Unit 22 Contribute to the maintenance of a healthy, safe and protective working environment - This is a project based unit which is internally assessed.

Unit 23 Achieving Personal Effectiveness - Candidates are required to produce a project which will be internally marked.

Unit 21 Working with Computers - This unit involves looking at the role of excel spreadsheets and an accountancy package.

Learning Style:
There is a blended mix of work shop activities, computing work, realistic simulations and group work. Much of the learning material will be made available on the College's virtual learning environment (VLE) CityBit2, which is available from any internet-enabled computer in the world.

Equipment Requirements:
A calculator with standard + - X / % and memory functions is required and should be brought to every session. Home or work-based computing facilities for word processing and spread sheets will be useful, but not essential as all students will have access to the College IT facilities. Students who can access the internet will be able to use the CityBit2 material.

Assessment:
All units are internally assessed via skills tests and other supporting evidence with the exception of Unit 3, which also requires the candidate to sit an externally set examination.

Progression:
As your career in accounting progresses you might move on to the Intermediate and Technician AAT NVQs, and then perhaps to the certified and chartered accountant qualifications.

Additional Information:
Part-time day or evening. Candidates will be required to register with AAT independent from the college.

Enrolment Instructions:
All students will be required to attend an interview before being accepted on the programme.
