About this course
To be eligible for ATA assessment, technicians must possess a minimum level of industry experience, in an appropriate role, as follows: * Service Maintenance Technician - 2 years * Diagnostic Technician - 3 years * Master Technician - 5 years or hold a relevant national qualification as well as a minimum of 1 year's post qualification experience in an appropriate role. * Service Maintenance Technician - Level 2 qualification required * Diagnostic Technician 3 years - Level 3 qualification required * Master Technician 5 years - Level 4 qualification required

For light vehicle technicians there are three competency levels:
- Service Maintenance Technician
- Diagnostic Technician
- Master Technician
Service Maintenance Technician
- Braking systems
- Engine electrical systems
- Engine mechanical
- Vehicle safety and documentation
Plus any 2 of the following tests:
- Transmission system
- Vehicle electrical systems
- Wheel alignment and steering
Diagnostic Technician
- Braking systems
- Engine electrical systems
- Engine mechanical
- Vehicle electrical systems
Plus any 2 of the following tests:
- Air conditioning
- Transmission system
- Wheel alignment and steering
Master Technician
- Braking systems
- Customer liaison
- Engine electrical
- Instructional support
- Supplementary restraint system (SRS)
