1st Level Training

A full day on-site audiometry training to give you an in-depth working knowledge of audiometric testing through practical learning. The training is for anyone undertaking audiometry as part of a health screening hearing conservation programme.

Training Objectives:

  • HSE -Guidelines, Recommendations & Requirements.
  • Basic Anatomy- How the ear works & explanation of damaged caused by Noise Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL).
  • Using an Otoscope-How to examine the ear safely in accordance with British Society of Audiology (BSA) procedures.
  • Use of a Sound Level Meter- For measuring ambient noise (noise level required for audiometric testing).
  • Noise Measurements & Limits- Explanation of how much noise is permitted within the workplace.
  • Introduction to Audiometers- Pre-test health questionnaires, review health questionnaires, practical session using and audiometer, interpretation and categorising audiograms to HSE requirements, frequency of hearing tests and test environment.
  • Record keeping & referral- How to keep audiogram records safe, who should have access. How to refer to a medical professional.
  • Summary of why an audiogram may be incorrect- i.e illness, tinnitus, excessive wax etc.
  • Hearing Protection- summary of what can be done to reduce noise within the workplace i.e: enclosures for noisy machinery, quiet havens for employees, workplace layout, and earplugs.
  • The training includes practical & theory assessments.

Training can be for 2-6 people and you would need a suitable training/quiet room.

2nd Level Training

The next level training includes all of the above with a unique service that gives you the opportunity to work alongside a dBAudiometry trainer, once you have completed 1st level training, at your premises until you are confident to carry out Audiometric testing and Otoscopy. This service is totally flexible and gives you the opportunity to say when and how many days you feel you need the support of a dBAudiometry trainer. You can develop your skills and set up a tailor-made Hearing Conservation Programme to suit your environment.
