Course programme
This course explores communication and discusses ways to overcome barriers to meet individual needs in
communication. It also covers the knowledge and skills needed to reflect a culture of empowerment, person centred values & maximising service user input into the management of your specific services. The training will include time to prepare action plans in order to apply the learning achieved.
Those who support individuals in a range of settings, residential, community and
supported living and interact directly with them.
Proposed Learner Outcomes - The worker must be able toAt this end of this training all participant will be able to;
- Describe the principals of active listening and basic verbal skills
- Describe the principals of social stories.
- Make & use low tech visual aids; routines, prompts for task sequencing, choice cards / key rings / boards, chat books, basic social stories & positive programming.
- Describe the symbols hierarchy & apply this to service user / tenants they work with.
- Recognise when a service user / tenant is using Makaton / sign language.
