Course programme

This course is only offered to groups of 4 or more delegates from one organisation at a time. We do not offer courses to individuals

It is recommended that the course is based at the client’s site thus allowing candidates to gain practical experience on equipment that they are already familiar with. An on site meeting room suitable for teaching purposes would be necessary for the theory presentation.

The content of the course is as follows, although this can be adapted to meet client's requirements.

  • Electricity at Work: Definitions
  • Electricity at Work: Safe Working Practices
  • Understanding of Schematic Power Distribution Diagrams
  • Practical Exercise 1
  • Discussion and Feedback for Practical Exercise 1
  • Practical Exercise 2
  • Discussion and Feedback for Practical Exercise 2
  • Live Working Definitions and Precautions (See Note 1 below)
  • Awareness of the Extra Precautions for High Voltage Work (See Note 2 below)
  • Awareness of Permit to Work Procedures (See Note 2 below)
  • Course Review and Close

Assessment: If the candidate builds up a portfolio of experience, ICA has a structured assessment procedure. This involves an interview panel consisting of an ICA SAP Mentor and the clients Safety Advisor or Senior Electrical Engineer. If the candidate passes this assessment they are eligible to become an ‘Authorised Person’.

Time Required: 4 Hours Prior Reading of Booklet + 1 Day Classroom and On-site.
