Course Overview
This course allows you to acquire advanced motor vehicle competencies in a college-based environment, which simulates working practice.

Course Structure
You will have to complete seven units, all of which are assessed by observation in the college workshop. Underpinning knowledge is tested by completing assignments in class, verbal questioning and City & Guilds on-line GOLA exams.

The units are:

  • Housekeeping
  • Health and Safety
  • Working with Others
  • Inspect Vehicles
  • Diagnose and Rectify Vehicle Engine System and Component Faults
  • Diagnose and Rectify Auxiliary Equipment Electrical Faults
  • Diagnose and Rectify Vehicle Chassis Systems and Component Faults.


Qualification Aims
The qualification aims are
  • City & Guilds VRQ Level 3 in Vehicle Maintenance
  • Essential Skills in Maths and English


This course can lead to work in the local motor vehicle repair industry especially if used to progress to the MV repair & Maintenance NVQ Programme.

Assessments/Examinations
Continual assessments are carried out in both the theory and practical aspects of thecourse. Examinations are on-line with City & Guilds
