This leading-edge course brings together a variety of key academic subject areas, highly relevant to the aviation industry, to equip you with the skills and knowledge required in the dynamic world of airport and airline business operations.

WHY CHOOSE THIS COURSE?

You will explore the areas of air transport, airline terminal functions, and logistics operations and gain knowledge and practical skills in dealing with effective management of aviation.

If you choose this course you will benefit from:

  • academic staff who have many years of relevant aviation industry experience both in the UK and overseas in airport, airline and tour operator management, commercial and military flying, and bring this into their teaching;
  • placement opportunities within industry, which have in the past included Airbus, Birmingham Airport Ltd, CityJet, Coventry Airport/Patriot Aviation, Eastern Airways, Lufthansa, Servisair, Skyguide, Star Alliance, TAROM, TUI Travel, and UBM Aviation Routes
  • a programme of hosted site visits at major and regional airlines and airports within the UK and overseas and the experience of industry invited guest speakers from airlines, tour operators, suppliers and air transport consultancies;
  • the use of interactive technology in the classroom so you can instantly review your understanding of a new topic, online quizzes to reinforce what you’ve learnt and extensive use of business simulation, using airport and airline operating examples;

  • a course that is formally accredited as meeting the educational requirements for chartered membership of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT).

This course is accredited by The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

The first year covers the fundamentals of air transport and airport operations, together with a range of supporting study areas. It ensures that you are well prepared for a detailed study of aviation management.

In the second year you will focus on a number of specialist aviation subjects such as airline marketing and management, aviation safety, security and emergency planning, complemented by supporting management studies.

You can undertake an optional industry sector placement or study abroad year (subject to application).

During your final year you will focus on a number of strategic areas such as aviation strategy and planning, human factors in aviation and airline operations and scheduling, complemented by supporting subjects. The technical subjects are balanced with the development of skills and capabilities that all employers prize highly in their graduate recruits.

HOW WILL THIS COURSE BE TAUGHT?
