Course programme

Course Content
  • Year 1

In Year 1 you will have an extensive introduction to Abuse Studies through a dedicated unit which will enable you to develop a detailed understanding of abuse through studying how it is conceptualised, represented and constructed. You will grapple with issues of human rights and have the choice of an elective unit from a range of subject areas including crime, psychology and sociology.

You will be involved in practical dance classes, choreography, workshops, lectures and seminar sessions.

  • Year 2

In Year 2 the core units develop an awareness of abuse in different contexts and discuss policy and practical responses. Further study focuses on understanding criminal behaviour and the development of capacity for independent dissertation work in your final year. You will also have the opportunity to take an option unit which includes volunteering in the community.

Your second year of dance builds on your first year studies of choreography, performance and research and gradually allows you a more independently determined learning experience.

  • Year 3

In Year 3 you will undertake a substantial, independently defined project. You will also take a final year unit which explore a contemporary issue in abuse through different and theoretical perspectives and a discussion of policy and global contexts of abuse.

Your final year of dance studies will give you opportunities to work both collaboratively and under your own direction, developing a strong basis from which to devise your own programme of study in the final year.
