Course programme

Course Content
  • Year 1

In Year 1, you will study both of your combined honours subjects equally.

This first year aims to provide you with a thorough grounding in the criminal justice system by examining the history of the courts, the penal system and the police service.

You will explore your own experience of the education process and how people learn. Study includes understanding education and learning and teaching.

  • Year 2

In Year 2 you can continue with equal study or choose a major/minor route (education studies would be the minor subject).

Your crime studies units will include analysing criminal behaviour and the criminal mind using social science perspectives within the criminal justice system.

You will consider how teachers teach and how educational policy impacts on the professional in the classroom. You will also have the opportunity to study educational research methods.

  • Year 3

In Year 3 you can continue with an equal study or major/minor route.

Your crime studies units will focus on the theories of crime and the various responses from the criminal justice system and public concerns. You will analyse the concept of violence and crime, both historically and within contemporary society, explore aspects of forensic science and investigate a crime studies topic of your choice.

You will study global issues in education and have the option to undertake an education studies dissertation or to work as a volunteer mentor/tutor in an educational setting.
