Course programme
In each year of study, you will take two core Chinese language modules and one core Chinese culture module. You will then study three modules of your own choosing from an extensive range of module choices, allowing you to tailor your degree around your own particular interests.
Culture modules include:- Introduction to Chinese Arts: Forms, Functions and Aesthetics
- Cinematic Cities and Urbanisation in China
- Popular Culture in Contemporary China
- Gender and Sexuality in Chinese Cinema.
You can also choose to study a range of related modules such as sociolinguistics and subtitling and an officially recognised teaching qualification through the Trinity CertTESOL module (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages).
Your third year is spent abroad and counts for 10% of your overall degree. It gives you the wonderful opportunity to experience Chinese culture and society and improve your relevant language skills. In your final year you will have the opportunity to undertake an extended research project.
There is also the opportunity to pick free elective modules in each year of study from a choice of ten different languages on offer which include Arabic, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish, all ranging from beginner to post A-Level.
