It is a four-year course with three years (Years 1, 2, and 4) of academic study the University and one year (Year 3) on industrial placement. Students fulfilling the requirements will be awarded a classified honours degree and a Diploma in Professional Practice (DPP).
Year 1
Modules address core skills in Mathematics (Mathematics 1) as well as traditional Engineering disciplines (Engineering Fundamentals) such as Physics, Mechanics, Electricity and Thermodynamics. A long thin module over two semesters underpins professional skills (Professional Studies). Students are also exposed to Manufacturing, Materials, Design and Computer-Assisted Design (CAD). A specific ‘Clean Tech‘ module (Energy and Environmental Systems) in semester 2 introduces the student to relevant technologies

Year 2
Second year study builds upon that of Year 1, going deeper into necessary subject specifics withClean Technology , but also Electrical Machines, Engineering Analysis, Materials, Design and CADand Thermal Fluid Sciences. The student is also exposed to a Quality module which covers the statistical aspects of manufacturing as well as a module on Control Theory and Applications..

Year 3
This module provides a one-year Industrial Placement programmed to complement the undergraduate’s academic studies. Students will undertake a placement as a junior professional engineer, designer or engineering manager, improve their understanding of the work environment and develop their inter-personal, communication and transferable skills. The experience will enhance maturity, personal ability and eventual employability. Students will be placed with companies who employ clean tech processes or who manufacture cleantech products.
Year 4

In Semester I Advances in Clean Technology provides students with a deeper learning experience in relation to the key themes of clean technology focusing on advanced materials for Clean Tech solutions. The module Energy Economics and Management has been introduced in semester 1 to apprehend jointly the technological and economical aspects of energy production, storage and management. In addition, Project Appraisal and Management (Project Management) has been specifically written into this programme to instil the importance of economic viability and marketability of Clean Tech solutions. In the second semester, the students must choose two out of four modules; Manufacturing technology, Computer-Assisted Engineering, Nanotechnology and Object-Oriented Programming. Finally, a key aspect of this final year is the Honours Project, which spans both semesters, allowing the student to engage in a research project focussed on a particular theme within clean technology. The projects will be strongly supported by research in advanced materials within the Engineering Research Institute
