Course programme
In joint honours degrees at the University of Hull, both subjects figure equally, meaning an equal number of modules are studied from each subject. You will take six modules a year, including some core modules in the first and second years, with greater choice as you progress.
In your first year, you will study French Language Skills and Revolutions in Culture and Society: The Making of Modern France. Alongside this, you will study with three core Philosophy modules: Introduction to Philosophy I (Moral Philosophy) Introduction to Philosophy II (Epistemology, Metaphysics and Philosophy of Mind) History of Western Thought.
In your second and fourth years, you will select six modules per year from a wide range of module choice, allowing you to develop your interests and tailor your degree to you. These cover French history, culture and society as well as philosophical history and themes. Options include French Cinema, Moral Philosophy, France at War, 20th Century Philosophy, Ideas and Identities in Modern and Contemporary France and Theories of Responsibility.
Your third year is spent abroad and counts for 10% of your overall degree. It gives you the wonderful opportunity to experience French culture and society and improve your language skills. You will be assessed by written and oral exams, essays, presentations, portfolios and class participation.
