Course programme

Course Content Year 1

Our BA Human Geography programme allows students to specialise in that side of the discipline they find most engaging. First-year modules introduce students to key concepts and themes in human geography, providing the building blocks for more specialist modules later in the programme.

Year 2

Second and fourth year options include modules on: globalisation; cities and regions; transnational geographies; sustainable futures; green economies; development and the global south; cultural geographies; landscape history; and the geographies of oppression and resistance. You can also select an additional module from a choice drawn from social science, humanities or modern languages. Year 2 also includes a free core field study module to an overseas destination such as Germany or Italy.

Final Year

You spend one semester of your final year gaining real-world experience and boosting your employability by working on a work experience module with an outside organisation from the private, public or third sectors. Another important part of the final year is the dissertation – a piece of individual work on a topic of your choice, carried out under the guidance of a supervisor.
