Course Content

The course lasts for four years and involves the study to Honours level of two major European languages (in this case French and Spanish) as well as receiving a grounding in a third non-European language, Mandarin Chinese. In addition, you will acquire a strong grounding in one further language. The focus is on practical language use in a variety of social, political and economic contexts, with an emphasis on oral as well as written skills. You will have the chance to learn the skills of translating and interpreting to a high level. You will also study the social and political life in the countries concerned. Year 3 is divided equally between both countries studying at a partner institution. The University has a large network of ERASMUS links, ensuring a wide choice of destinations. These include Paris, Tours, Brest, and Montpellier in France, Mons in Belgium, and Oviedo, Granada, Vigo, Alicante, Madrid, Barcelona, Murcia, Cáceres and Valladolid in Spain. Successful completion of the third year will result in the award of a Diploma in International Academic Studies (DIAS).
