Course Content

If you chose to study the Sociology with Politics degree at Jordanstown you will study 4 Sociology modules each year. Your modules are as follows:

Level 4 Semester 1: Introduction to Sociology, Contemporary Culture & Social Change

Semester 2: Sociology of Health & Illness, Qualitative Research Methods

Level 5 Semester 1: Quantitative Methods, Sociology of Advanced Industrial Society

Semester 2: Sociology of Development, Classical Sociological Theory

Level 6 Semester 1: Contemporary Sociological Theory, Modern Ireland

Semester 2: You will complete your Dissertation plus two modules from the following: Sociology of Work; Sociology of Education; Mental Health & Society.

Students taking Politics as their minor study 2 modules in the subject each year.

Year 1 Semester 1: Introduction to Politics & Government

Year 1 Semester 2:Foundations of Political Thought OR International Politics

Year 2 Semester 1: ONE of the following: Political Thought – Text & Context; British Politics & Policy; Politics of Western Europe

Year 2 Semester 2: ONE of the following: Politics of the USA; Politics of Ireland Since Partition

Year 3 Semester 1: ONE of the following: Interpreting the Troubles; International Relations; Politics of Identity;

Year 3 Semester 2: ONE of the following: Visions of the Modern State; Equality & Human Rights
