The curriculum is made up of discrete modules. Full-time students study six modules per semester, two in semester 1 and two in semester 2, with two further modules running throughout the year.

Year 1

The course provides a thorough grounding in essential sociological, anthropological and gender-related theories, concepts and skills, with opportunities for specialisation through optional modules covering themes such as: popular culture • disability • religion • race , social justice, the body • environment • sexualities • development and global society. In Year 1 you study a broad range of introductory modules focusing on gender issues in society, sociological analysis and the anthropological study of world cultures.

Year 2

In Year 2 you will learn how to interpret social data, explore theories of society and gender, develop further your anthropological knowledge and, in addition to your core modules, choose certain specialised options according to your learning interests.

Year 3

The focus of Year 3 is your dissertation, which you will research and write independently on a related topic of your choosing, and your continuing specialisation within Sociology, Anthropology and Gender Studies through your module options.
