Similar to our BA/BA (Hons) Hospitality Management, this route allows you to specialise in French, German, Spanish or English as a Foreign Language. The ability to speak a second language is a great advantage in the global economy and can open up many employment opportunities. You'll study the principles of hospitality management and apply these to practical situations, alongside your chosen language. A qualification in the appropriate language is required for entry. You’ll learn practical skills in hotels and restaurants, as well as developing transferable skills in research, academic writing, communication and interpersonal relations, presentation and time management. You’ll complete at least one trimester overseas at a partner institution.
This course is studied full-time over four years. You’ll learn by a variety of teaching methods including lectures, tutorials and independent study. You’ll study your main language throughout the course. We offer tuition that is supported by highly experienced teaching staff and strong industry links. What you study Below is an indication of the modules you’ll most likely study. These will be supplemented with choices from a course-specific option pool. Year 1 Introduction to Hospitality, Tourism and Events Intercultural and Organisational Management Hospitality Operations Language One option module Year 2 Business and Management Challenges Hospitality Systems Facilities Planning for Hospitality, Tourism and Events The Study of Food and Wine Language Year 3 Hospitality Business Development Service Management Language Study Abroad, or one Language module and two options Note Study Abroad is compulsory for all students studying French, German or Spanish as their main language and will take place in a country in which this language is spoken. Only students whose main language is English as a Foreign Language may, with the agreement of the programme leader, choose to remain at Edinburgh Napier during the Study Abroad period. You would then study the appropriate English as a Foreign Language module plus two options.
