Are you passionate about film? If you want to study with leading academics in state of the art facilities, this is the course for you. You will also have the chance to apply what you learn through practical filmmaking.
You will study film from the late 19th century to the modern day, including world cinema, avant-garde and experimental filmmaking. Explore the cinema of classical and contemporary Hollywood such as musicals, melodrama, action cinema and the films of Alfred Hitchcock, together with new forms of digital entertainment and video art.
Investigate television from its origins in the mid-20th century to contemporary engagements with new media and digital platforms, from soap opera to sitcom to sci-fi, challenging questions of authorship, genre and audience.
When people come to our open days they are blown away. Our £11.4-million building opened in 2011 and features three theatre spaces, a digital cinema, a dedicated recording studio and a mixing suite. You will have access to a studio with a flexible lighting system, multi-camera facilities, a talk-back system and Chroma key, and a studio gallery linked to the theatres for live filming and mixing work.
You will use industry-standard software with support from dedicated technicians, and all spaces are equipped with state-of-the-art multimedia equipment and lighting.
The focus is completely on your development into a critically informed filmmaker. You will gain the academic knowledge and practical skills in every year of this course with opportunities to direct films and television programmes in the final two years.
You can attend optional trips to a range of world-class performances in London and work with academics at the cutting edge of research into stage and screen, in the UK and worldwide.
