Course introduction: Mastering one or more foreign languages will place you a step ahead in global business. This courses features an overseas study element of at least one trimester that will see you refine your language skills while you make new friends and widen your horizons. You’ll study either French, German, Spanish, or English as a Foreign Language, with a focus on marketing management. You’ll learn the fundamentals of marketing management and relate these principles to the culture and business environment of the countries that use your chosen language. Course programme
Your language skills will be developed through spoken and written communication, role play and presentations. The aim is to achieve fluency for business purposes, a goal which will be aided by spending a trimester or two overseas immersed in your chosen language. You’ll learn the principles of marketing management and the management and organisational skills that go along with it. You could also choose to study a second language for some of the course. This is a full-time course studied over four years. You’ll learn by a variety of teaching methods including lectures, tutorials and independent study. You’ll spend at least one trimester studying abroad. Students attending from all over the world and excellent facilities such as a digital language lab, make this course an intensive and enjoyable experience. In addition, our exchange programmes with overseas institutions and subsidies for living expenses add a valuable practical edge to the course. What you study You’ll study at least one language from a choice of French, German, Spanish or English as a Foreign Language throughout your degree. Below is an indication of the modules you could study. These will be supplemented by choices from a course-specific option pool. Year 1 Language Marketing Intercultural Organisational Management Two options Year 2 Language Market Research in Practice Exploring Culture Two options Year 3 One year Study Abroad Or Trimester One: Language and two options Trimester Two: Study Abroad, or English as a Foreign Language and two options Note Study abroad is compulsory for all students studying French, German or Spanish as their main language and will take place in a country in which this language is spoken. Only students whose main language is English as a Foreign Language may, with the agreement of the programme leader, choose to remain at Edinburgh Napier during the Study Abroad period and study English as a Foreign Language plus two option modules. Year 4 Language Communication in International Management Marketing Management in Practice Dissertation The main language must be studied throughout the programme and students must achieve level by the end of Year 4.
