BA (Hons) Sports Studies (Top-up) Overview

Employability is embedded into the programme and achieved specifically through the ‘Professional Practice’ module. The ‘Independent Research Project’ module allows students to pursue a particular area of interest in depth, develop a range of transferable skills and provides a solid grounding for progression to Masters level study.

This course is validated by the University of Derby.

Entry requirements

All applicants will be invited to an interview to discuss qualifications, experience and other related issues.

To start this course you will be expected to have successfully completed a minimum of one of the following:

  • At least 240 credits on a relevant foundation degree, with a minimum grade profile of 55%.
  • At least 240 credits on a relevant HND with a minimum of a merit profile.
  • Other relevant Level 5 qualification.

We also normally require GCSE English language and maths at grade C or above: English and maths at Level 2 are essential requirements.

Please note that GCSE maths or equivalent is required for progression onto the BA (Hons) Sport Studies (top-up) award or other programme.

You may also be required to undertake a self-funded Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check prior to undertaking this course.

This is a one-year full-time programme, normally delivered two days a week for six hours each day. You will also need to dedicate significant time to research and work outside the classroom.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment will be based on coursework and will include a research project, written assignments, practical case studies and critical reflections. Some assessment will be work-related enabling you to apply your learning to a specific work-based context.

Graduates may seek employment in a range of related careers such as coaching, sports development, sports therapy, sports medicine, personal training, teaching or the uniformed services.
