Programme Overview

The programme is offered in the following modes of study: Full-time, Part-Time, at the LSM campus in Ealing, London. The study of Tourism addresses the phenomena and relationships arising from the travel and stay of people away from their normal home environments for a variety of purposes.

Main educational aims of the programme

The main educational aims of Tourism Industry Management are to provide you, the student, with opportunities to:

  • Access a route to honours for students who have studied a cognate award equivalent to a higher diploma.
  • Study for an honours Level III course that offers flexible delivery, supported by appropriate resources and guidance.
  • Further develop transferable and cognitive skills in preparation for a variety of management-aligned careers or a higher award
  • Evaluate and apply relevant concepts associated with the operational and strategic management of financial, human and physical resources within the context of the tourism industry, and to understand and apply concepts associated with the allocation of resources in the wider community.
  • Use this course to develop thoughtful, reflective and self-directed graduates who can theorise, practise and apply their skills, knowledge and understanding to management roles in the tourism industry.

Programme outcomes
The programme provides opportunities for you, the student, to achieve and demonstrate the following learning outcomes:

Knowledge and understanding of:

  • the development of knowledge in tourism;
  • the need for a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approach to the study of Tourism Industry Management;
  • tourism through both academic and professional reflective practice;
  • moral, ethical and legal issues which underpin best practice in the tourism sector;
  • the concepts and characteristics of tourism as an area of academic and applied study;
  • the products, structures and interactions of the different sectors of the tourism industry;
  • the role of tourism in its host communities and environments;
  • the nature and characteristics and behaviour of tourists.
