The Single Honours degree scheme in Modern History and Politics concentrates on recent history and politics and places the study of political ideas and institutions in the context of an understanding of historical development. It combines the expertise of historians and political scientists in an integrated course structure that allows you considerable latitude in the choice of modules. Teaching will be shared between the Department of History and Welsh History and the Department of International Politics both of which have established notable reputations for teaching and research in their respective fields. The Departments include specialists on the history and politics of Europe, the United States , Latin America and Australasia .
Degree Structure
Year One
During their first year (known as ‘Part One') students are introduced to the study of Politics and to some of the major areas of the discipline. Students take an equivalent number of modules in the Department of History & Welsh History.
Years Two and Three (Part 2)
During their either their second or final year students are required to take the core module for their degree scheme.
In their final year students can choose to do a 12,000-word dissertation.
In addition to these core elements, students take up to five optional modules from the Department of International Politics and an equivalent number from the Department of History & Welsh History. The range of International Politics options on offer changes from year to year.
