The Bachelor of Food and Agribusiness is an innovative and multidisciplinary way to learn about the business and science of sustainably supplying food to a growing global population while gaining the work experience needed to launch a career in the next big boom industry.



As a BFoodAgrib student, your lectures, tutorials, and laboratory sessions will be led by experts from across the university. The Sydney Business School will teach you about the business of food production, while the Faculty of Agriculture and Environment will teach you about the science of food.



Over the four-year degree, you undertake majors in Food Science and Agribusiness. In your third year, you will gain invaluable professional experience via a 12-week internship, which will provide real industry experiences and an opportunity to network with practicing professionals. In your fourth year, which is an embedded Honours year, you will undertake an individual research project on your chosen area of interest, while fine-tuning your analytical, practical and research skills along the way.

Study plan

For this unique interdisciplinary course, units of study are provided by the Faculties of Agriculture and Environment, Science, Veterinary Science, the School of Business and the Charles Perkins Centre. Students complete a minimum of 192 credit points over four years of full-time study, including an embedded Honours Year 4 (part-time enrollment is only available for local students).

In years 1 and 2, the degree is comprised of seven units of study related to agribusiness, and nine units of study related to food science. In years 3 and 4, students choose electives in marketing, management and retailing of commodities, and value added food and fibre products and/ or value adding activities including processing, packaging and distribution. Students are required to complete at least 72 credit points in agribusiness and 72 credit points in food science, with the remaining 12 credit points taken from the aforementioned electives.

The Honours Year 4 involves a specialised research project (worth 24 credit points). In the third year, for 12 weeks of the second semester (from September to November), students undertake a compulsory industry internship (worth 12 credit points) which provides them invaluable real world industry placement experience with select companies chosen by the Faculty.
