BACP Accredited Counselling Training
Humanistic Integrative Counselling

Humanistic Integrative Counselling recognises that there are significant connections between all approaches to counselling. It acknowledges that different clients have different needs and believes that no one single approach is sufficient. Humanistic Integrative Counselling is inspired by a range of creative theories which encompasses the contributions of Humanistic and Existential Psychology, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and Transpersonal Psychology.

The Humanistic Integrative Approach recognises that the quality of the therapeutic relationship, rather than any one particular theoretical orientation, is the most important aspect of successful therapeutic work. Thinking, sensing, feeling and intuiting are all given emphasis within the framework of the relationship. The model aims to help counsellors understand the complexities of the clinical situation, which includes not only the clients' internal world, but also their experiences within the wider family and socio-cultural context.

Humanistic Integrative Counselling is an approach that systematically considers the whole person - mind, body and spirit.

Our training prepares students as professional counsellors for subsequent individual accreditation with the BACP or the Association for Humanistic Psychology Practitioners (AHPP).

CPPD's counselling training consists of three modules:

- Certificate in Humanistic Integrative Counselling

- Diploma in Humanistic Integrative Counselling

- Advanced Diploma in Humanistic Integrative Counselling

The Advanced Diploma (Professional Training) in Humanistic Integrative Counselling is Accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). This is awarded to students who successfully complete the Diploma and Advanced Diploma. Entry on to the accredited course requires completion of the Certificate in Humanistic Integrative Counselling. Students who have studied for a Certificate or equivalent elsewhere may be eligible to join the second year of the BACP Accredited Course, according to the CPPD Accreditation of Prior Learning Policy. This is described below in the entry requirements for the Diploma year.

All three years offer distinct training activities:

- Theoretical Teaching

- Skills Training and

- Personal Development

Theoretical Teaching is imparted through didactic teaching, video, pair and group exercises and guided reading.

Skills Training is facilitated in an experiential format, including counselling pairs, triads, small and large groups, trainee presentations and supervised clinical practice (Diploma and Advanced Diploma).

Personal Development includes participation in an experiential group and a minimum of fifty hours of personal counselling, which is undertaken outside of the training. Students are also required to maintain a confidential reflective journal.

The training places emphasis upon students' self-awareness, and the need to demonstrate competence in the use of appropriate strategies with individual clients at specific times. Students are encouraged to reflect upon their learning and personal development throughout, both in relationships with peers, tutors and supervisors, as well as through their clinical practice.

Our training aims to equip students with the knowledge, skills and expertise to practice as competent counsellors from graduation, and also to enable them to continue their development as self-reflective practitioners throughout their career. CPPD's courses provide a theoretical foundation and practical training in Humanistic Integrative Counselling, guiding and preparing trainees for a professional career as a counsellor.
