Course programme
Run by Northern Ballet Theatre, this strand gives students a thorough grounding in classical Ballet technique and provides an excellent introduction to all future dance training. The training is developed in accordance with Northern Ballet Theatre’s resident Ballet mistress, Yoko Ichino, whose approach to teaching Ballet technique has a proven track record in the profession.
The primary focus of the Ballet and Body conditioning classes is to develop the students’ individual achievement in, and understanding of, correct alignment, strength, flexibility, self-awareness and musicality. Weekly enhancement sessions include other dance disciplines, drama and music and lead to the study of Contemporary techniques in subsequent years.
Young people can join the ballet strand between the ages of 10 and 12 and may have the opportunity to train with Northern Ballet Theatre up to the age of 16.
