Band Academy

Band Academy is the most comprehensive part time course at ACM, providing a strong focus on band performance and musicianship. All students study practical live performance techniques, in conjunction with professional musicians, in a supportive environment with incredible facilities. The aim of Band Academy is to ensure all musicians are fully prepared for an end of term public concert. Students are placed into tutor groups and spend time working with their tutor on how to gain the most from their playing, their performance and enhancing their communication skills.

Band Academy gives expert information on a variety of areas including instrument choice, maintenance, getting a great sound, constructing and playing/singing the right parts for every song.

Students will also:
• Record a song live in the studio as if a radio session
• Prepare and present a 5 minute lesson to their class
• Arrange and perform an ‘unplugged’ version of an electric song
• Prepare and perform a set of your own choice of material
• Work out, chart and perform a song using Youtube.
• Prepare and perform a new arrangement of a given song
• Perform tracks using a click track and a backing track
• Sing as part of a choir

Band Academy also offers real world advice on the music industry and regular opportunities to work with a musical director. All musicians receive constructive feedback on their live performances.

Students who successfully complete ‘Band Academy’ are ideally suited to
progress onto the ACM full time Diploma course.
